save your time

amv’s fritz!box is a nice little box, which is quite perfect as the central digital hub for your home (or office, or whatever…). unfortunately it’s missing one feature, which would make it even more useful (or at least more comfortable to use): it’s not possible to create dns record for your lan. of yourse this feature can be added.

i decided to use the really cool danisahne-mod.

the documentation only provides instructions for building on linux and windows systems. although it is also possible to build on mac os x, there are some differences in the bsd subsystem compared to a gnu/linux system. you can solve all problems with the help of fink or darwinports, or by compiling tons of dependencies.

much faster:

  • download some kind of linux live-cd (i used ubuntu), which includes a decent set of development tools
  • if you’re on an intel machine: download and install parallels, create a virtual machine. if not: get a ppc based linux live cd.
  • boot linux
  • make menuconfig
  • make

done.
