itunes 8 – remove genre view in browser

hmpf. the first new “feature” i noticed after firing up itunes 8 and checking the grid view for 5 sec. was the lack of the “genre in browser” setting for list view in the preferences. and as there’s nothing to set up anymore in this regard, itunes simply decides to silently turn it on for you again if you used to live without it.
thanks, i totally don’t need it. it has to go.

if you feel the same, tell your terminal:

defaults write com.apple.itunes show-genre-when-browsing -bool FALSE

Note that this won’t work if you have case sensitive file system. the T in iTunes should be capitalized.

Thanks Robert! Basically right, but actually itunes doesn’t care for the capital t.
As soon as it finds a apple.itunes.plist it just goes for it and renames it to apple.iTunes.plist automatically.
