itunes 8 - remove genre view in browser
September 9th, 2008hmpf. the first new “feature” i noticed after firing up itunes 8 and checking the grid view for 5 sec. was the lack of the “genre in browser” setting for list view in the preferences. and as there’s nothing to set up anymore in this regard, itunes simply decides to silently turn it on for you again if you used to live without it.
thanks, i totally don’t need it. it has to go.

August 18th, 2008i never understood completely why guitar hero was/is so successfull (why not spending the same time to learn how to rock a real guitar and being able to impress the girls at the next camp fire even without electricity and a tv set?!) and that it somehow even started some kind of new category of games but i’m happy to see that Alesis now announced a “deluxe replacement” drum controller for the “Rock Band” game.
Looks like it is playable, will come for 299 eurocredtis and is not only usable to play the game but to control your favourite “insert hardware/software that produces drum sounds thingie”.
maybe i can complete my 1 man garagenpunkband setup now - without costing me an arm and a leg.

das kann doch nicht wahr sein. was hat barack denn dem durschnittlichen deutschen michel mitzuteilen? und warum reagiert der michel überhaupt? hier rennen sie teilweise sogar mit obama-tshirts rum!
das kann ich mir nur mit klassischer konditionierung erklären.
mittlerweile ist es so, dass es egal ist WAS da passiert: wenn man diese spezielle strasse absperrt und “fanmeile” sagt, dann schaltet das volk die denkmurmel ab und rottet sich da hin.
klarer fall, dafür wurde sie ja designt. das ding wurde ja zuletzt 1936 von einem arschloch und seinen mannen auf seine jetzige breite gebracht um als paradestrasse zu fungieren.
unglaublich. ich möchte kotzen.
dass sich mündige bürger so zu einer amerikanischen bühnenstaffage degradieren lassen! und hier gehen sie nichtmal zur wahl!

ok, stumbled over two interesting papers written by Hans T. Zeiner-Henriksen, PhD-student at the Department of Musicology, University of Oslo:
the most significant beat is taking a deeper look into the history and the development of the bass drum sound in dance tracks during the last decades from 70s disco till now.
chicago House and the “democratization” of music production is about how house evolved from disco music when DJs started to produce dance tracks using the first available sequencer controlled and pattern based boxes as e.g. the Roland TR series.
it shows the role drum computers and sequenced synthesizers played those days and goes into detail about how they influenced the approach of creating dance music and grooves by programming and laying out patterns in order to create arrangements, instead of actually playing and recording acoustical instruments - in a pretty scientific manner!
